

Joyce A. (Hampton) Bushnell passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 9:06 a.m. at home, surrounded by family. She was born on August 22, 1956, to John Hampton, Sr. and the late Jenneth L. (Dwyer) Hampton.
She graduated from Springfield High School in 1974. Joyce went on to work first for Sally Wards Dry Cleaners and later at the State Board of Education from 1979 until she retired on March 31, 2015. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending cookouts, and any school or sporting event that involved her grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Wanda K. Hubbell of Springfield; son, Jesse (Jamie) Bushnell of Pleasant Plains; grandchildren, Ashley (Jimmy) Mayes of Carlinville, Anthony (Lorena) Metzger of Colorado Springs, Paige Metzger of Springfield, Andrew Metzger of Decatur, and Trenton Bushnell and Lilly Bushnell of Pleasant Plains; great-grandchildren, Blaine and Lyla Farley of Springfield, Lucas and Avery Metzger of Colorado Springs, and Colt and Talia Mayes of Carlinville.
She is also survived by her father, John Hampton, Sr.; siblings, John “Jack” (Barb) Hampton, Jr., Janice (Robert) Estes, Jennifer (Wendell) Rhodes, and James (Angie) Hampton, Sr., all of Springfield, Joan (William Sr.) Goodman of Tunnel Hill, GA, and Jolene (Paul Sr.) Ealey of Riverton.
Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, Jenneth L. (Dwyer) Hampton; sister and brother-in-law, Julie (Rick) Berner; step-mother, Sara Hampton; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, followed by the Funeral at 11:00 a.m. with Celebrant Parian Hull officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
