She was born on December 13, 1938, in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Robert A. and Marguerite L. (Stephenson) Miller. Joyce married Ronald E. “Pete” Peterson on September 3, 1960, in Macomb, IL.
Joyce graduated from Keokuk High School in 1956. She was a former hair model who was very sociable and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Joyce liked to keep active by watching birds and chipmunks, going boating, solving puzzles, traveling, camping, riding motorcycles, swimming, attending live concerts (loved Willie Nelson), reading, and living half of the year in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Raymond Pezley; and one brother.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Pete Peterson of Springfield; daughter, Lana Peterson of Springfield; son, Kevin (Kristy) Hawkins of Springfield; grandchildren, Koady, Nicholas, and Amanda Hawkins; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters; and one brother.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
