

Julia A. Sutton, 81, of Springfield, died at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Julia was born January 5, 1936 in Alton, the daughter of George H. and Christine H. Morris Stanko. Julia graduated from Staunton Community High School, class of 1953. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Registered Nursing from Virginia Intermont College and worked as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist for Memorial Medical Center for 27 years, and St. Johns Hospital for 8 1/2 years. She was a member of AARP, Mature Mob, Illinois Nurses Association, Illinois Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and served as a Girl Scout Leader, and a Driver Safety Course Instructor for AARP. Julia was also a member of St. Agnes Parish, St. Agnes Choir and Funeral Choir, and St. Agnes Art Outreach. She loved music and playing the guitar, piano, and organ. She was a mentor art outreach teacher, and loved painting, crafts, horseback riding, hiking, and camping. Julia was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, George H. Stanko, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Joseph M. (Nancy) Sutton of Sidney, IL, Jon "Chris" (Hope) Sutton of St. Cloud, MN, and Timothy P. (Pamela) Sutton of Springfield; daughter, Kathleen M. Bacon of Glenarm; grandchildren, Alicia Hawley, Sarah Bacon, and Brianna, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Brittany, David, Kaylyn, and Anthony Sutton; great-grandchildren, Michaelah Hawley, Paislee Reich, Jayden Sutton, Zoe Sutton, and Nathaniel Ackerson; brother, Francis H. (Pamela) Stanko of Sherman; two aunts; one uncle; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos, Springfield, with Rev. Robert J. Jallas, celebrant.
