

Kathy A. Wingerter, 51, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, April 05, 2009 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg. Kathy was born on July 7, 1957 in Elgin, the daughter of James A. and Catherine F. Nieman Atkinson. Especially fun-loving and family-oriented, Kathy loved spending time with her nieces and nephews. She was a member of Church of the Little Flower and Union UFCW #536. After graduating from Cary-Grove High School, Kathy served in the US Navy, stationed in Japan. She was currently employed at Schnucks in Montvale. She also enjoyed needlework and loved animals. Preceding Kathy in death are her father and siblings, Patricia and Gerald Atkinson. She is survived by her siblings, John (wife, Tris) Atkinson of Aurora, OH, Jim Atkinson (wife, Victoria Grigelaitis) of Chicago, and Mary (husband, Jerry) Parsons of Springfield; her mother, Catherine F. Atkinson of Springfield; two nieces and nephews; several cousins; and five great-nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy.
