

He was born May 14, 1922 in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Louisa Houston Farris. He was prececed in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Ellen Glisson and brothers, Joseph and Robert Farris. He married Evelyn Craddick Burke in 1976.
Mr. Farris was a graduate of Springfield High School and Northwestern University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Farris' military picture was titled “Smiling Through” and sent across the United States as a symbol of a typical U.S. Serviceman.
He was retired from the Illinois Department of Mental Health. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Sangamo Club and the Nighthawks Dance Club.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; sons, Todd(wife,Debbie) Farris of Milwaukee and Thomas(wife, Becki) Farris of Clinton; daughter, Stacey(husband, John) Mikelson of Littleton, CO.;Step daughter, Kathy(husband, Craig) DesChenes of Costa Rica; grandchildren,Natalie Farris of Milwaukee, WI, Melanie Farris of Madison, WI., Rachel (husband,Patrick) Costello of Clinton, Olivia DesChenes of Boston ,Julia DesChenes of Evanston,IL. And Costa Rica and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday June 13, 2008 at Christ Episcopal Church from 10:15 AM until the time of memorial services there at 11:00 AM with Rev.Dr. Gregory Tournoux officiating. Interment will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where the U.S. Army Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Memorials may be made to Animal Protective League 1001 Taintor Rd.
