

Larry "LarBear" Lenkart, 60, of Springfield, passed away at 11:23 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born on January 4, 1958 in Chicago, IL, the son of Bennett W. and Anne Marie Drohner Lenkart. He married Karen Stetzel on October 22, 1994 in Springfield. Larry was a graduate of Glenwood High School. He was a manager for Barnes & Noble for 25 years and then worked for the State of IL, Secretary of State. Larry enjoyed fishing, reading, music and social media. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anne Lenkart. He is survived by his wife, Karen Lenkart of Springfield; his daughter, Maggie Lenkart of Springfield; his father, Bennett Lenkart of Springfield; and two siblings, Laurel (husband, Walt) Howe and Lyle Lenkart, both of Springfield; aunt and uncle, Jeannie and Wayne Lundberg of Crest Hill, IL; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and close friend, Dan McGath. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Memorial Ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Larry and family wish to thank HCI Alternatives, the personnel department at the IL Secretary of State, and friends and neighbors for helping to make an unbearable situation more bearable.
