

Lauren A. "Dutch" Coe, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Joseph's Home in Springfield, IL. Lauren was born September 18, 1929 in Springfield, the son of Lauren E. and Edna Jones Coe. He married Janet Gehring on November 24, 1956 in Quincy. Lauren graduated from Cathedral Boys High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1951. He started his career at IBM and retired from 3M as a regional service manager. He then went to work for the State of Illinois Museum until his retirement. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #4179, Depression Glass Club, and the Cool Cruisers. Lauren was a past board member of Brinkerhoff Home and was a Boy Scout Committee Chair with troop 51. He enjoyed playing the piano, antique cars, fishing, camping, cooking, coin collecting, finish and repair of antique light fixtures, and was an antique collector. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Dodie Keplinger and Lila Cavanagh. He is survived by his wife, Janet of Springfield; his children, Janice (husband, Herman) Lumpkin of Boston, MA, Dave (wife, Laura) Coe of Normal, Daniel (wife, Lorraine) Coe of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mary Pickford (partner, Bryan Hemphill) of Springfield, Thomas (wife, Theresa) Coe of Springfield, and Charles (wife, Shannon) Coe of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Skip Lumpkin, Andrew Coe, Alex Coe, Dennis Coe, Nicole Pickford, Tiffany Cordier, Michael Coe, Elizabeth Coe, and Sarah Coe; and 2 great grandsons, Grey and Shawn. Memorial Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at St. Joseph's Home, 3306 S. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, celebrant. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Graveside Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
