

Lawrence William Knox, 90, of Springfield, died at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Regency Nursing Care. Lawrence was born January 26, 1919 in Ashland, the son of John Thomas and Ester Dickerson Knox. He married Mary L. Langheim in Springfield on April 26, 1957. She preceded him in death in 1978. Lawrence graduated from Cathedral High School in 1937. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving on the USS Bennington in the South Pacific during WWII. Lawrence was employed in various types of sales all of his life. He retired from retail sales at Sears. Lawrence was a positive and private gentleman. He was a devout Catholic who loved to say the Rosary and was a member of St. Agnes Church. He was also a member of Catholic War Veterans, the United Commercial Travelers and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Thomas, Donald, Carroll "Kike", Louis "Louie", Howard "Fuzz", Joseph "Joe" P. Knox and sister, Kathryn "Kate" Bangert. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Chris Liebman) Knox of Springfield; two grandchildren, Jacob and Leah Liebman both of Springfield and brother, Paul Knox of Springfield. Family will receive friends from 10:00 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Graveside ceremonies will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Calvary Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Marines. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos, Springfield, IL 62702.
