Leinaala "Leina" Schmidt

Leina was born July 15, 1980, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Loki Kahue.

Leina attended Lanphier High School before earning her bachelor’s degree in finance from Benedictine University in Springfield, IL. She dedicated part of her professional life to serving the State of Illinois, Department of Agriculture, specializing in Grant Management.

Leina had a deep love for the outdoors and embraced life with a warm, outgoing, and compassionate spirit. She especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren and held a special fondness for family game nights, where laughter and connection were always at the heart of the gathering.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gregerson Rider and Todd Barger.

Leina is survived by her mother, Loki of Springfield; companion, Jeff Hicklin of Clinton; sons, Eric (Lauren) Schmidt and Chase (Justina) Compston both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Myra & Athena Schmidt, Jalen & Baron Compston and Landyn; brothers, Brandon (Alisha) Rider and Chad Pittman; niece, Trista; nephew, Kai; bonus mom, Cinda Barger; and her beloved dog, Frankie.

Funeral Ceremony & Visitation: Funeral Ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield, IL 62703, with Pastor Joshua Traxel officiating. Visitation will follow the Ceremony until 7:00 p.m.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
