

Leonard W. Adams, 90, of Springfield, died at 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at St. John's Hospital. Leonard was born on July 20, 1923 in Springfield, the son of Harry L. and Mary F. Bryant Adams. He married Barbara Jean Rigdon on February 14, 1970 in Chicago; she preceded him in death on December 3, 2012. Leonard was a graduate of Feitshans High School and proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was employed as a Claims Representative for 35 years and was a member of Cherry Hills Baptist Church. He was also a member of the VFW Post 755, American Legion Post 759, Masonic Lodge St. Paul #500, and the Ski and Boat Club. Leonard enjoyed travelling, wood carving, puzzles, and going to the casinos. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Adams and step brother, Robert Werkau. He is survived by two daughters, Donna (husband, Ivar) Azeris of Wheaton, Connie (husband, Bob) Paynter of Carey, NC; step daughter, Frances Kelly of Summerfield; and step son, Allen (wife, Linda) Diehm of Springfield; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; sister, Martha Jiannoni of Springfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and special caregiver, Tish Brooks. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will conclude with Masonic Rites at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
