Lester C. �Mac� McGonagle, 90, of Springfield, IL, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Born August 11, 1922 in Princeville, IL, he was the son of Merle and Cecelia German McGonagle. On July 14, 1946, he married Alice Dawn Stone. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Larry McGonagle, a brother, two sisters and grandson Michael Williams. Mr. McGonagle is survived by his wife Alice; children Rhonda (Bernie) Clancy of Chatham and Sharon (Peter) Williams of Belleville, WA; grandchildren Jacob & Lauren Clancy and Lenna, Kevin & Cathy Williams; daughter-in-law Nanci McGonagle of Chatham and sister Barbara Tague of Madison, WI. Mr. McGonagle served his country in the United States Army. He was a bus driver for the city of Peoria and Peoria Charter Coach, before moving to Springfield and then Chatham. For 17 years, Mr. McGonagle was perhaps best known locally for greeting guests at WalMart (Parkway Pointe) in Springfield. His smile and warm nature left people feeling better about their day. Four years ago he retired and his positive attitude has been greatly missed by co-workers and customers. Graveside services: Noon, Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
