

Lillis Gene Workman, 92, of Springfield, peacefully passed away at 2:55 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at St. John's Hospice. Lillis was born January 10, 1920 in Athens, the daughter of Rupert Wayne and Milie Edna Hicks Eddy. She married Louis Charles Workman in July of 1944; he preceded her in death in 1972. Lillis graduated from Athens Community High School in 1939. She was employed at Memorial Medical Center, retiring on May 31, 1990. She was also employed at Maldaner's Restaurant during the 1970's and at Sangamo Electric. Lillis enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, and participating in activities at the Mary Bryant Home. She was known by her friends and family for being conservative, determined, independent, caring, thoughtful, and humble. She was a member of Clementine Memorial Church for more than 50 years, serving as a deacon. Through her faith and dedication to the Lord, she enjoyed assisting others. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Ethel Marten and Winifred Dirks; and her brother, Robert Eddy. She is survived by her sons, Kendall Louis Workman of Frisco, TX and Lee Charles (wife, Joyce) Workman of Chatham; three grandchildren, Brandon, Trevor, and Delaney Workman of Chatham; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Prince officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
