

Lily May Hunn, 97, of Springfield, died at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at St. John’s Hospice. Lily was born June 8, 1907, in Springfield, the daughter of Archer and Mary Smith Hawkins. She married Paul J. Hunn on September 20, 1930 in Chicago; he preceded her in death in 1942. Mrs. Hunn graduated from Springfield High School in 1925. She owned and operated Hunn’s DX Filling Station for 12 years; then worked for the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid for 26 years, retiring in 1980 as Director of Homemakers. After retirement she worked in the Lincoln Law Office, the Ramada Renaissance Hotel and the Illinois State Museum gift shops. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Illinois State Museum Society. She was also preceded in death by two children, Paul and Lily. She is survived by four daughters: Mary Louise (husband, Jeff) Collins of Rock Island, Paula (husband, Tom) Denny of Springfield, Alice Flaherty of Henderson, NV and Marjorie Hunn of Davenport, IA; thirteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The remains of Lily May Hunn were donated to science. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos, Springfield with Rev. Peter Harman celebrant. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos, Springfield or St. John’s Hospital, Hospice Program, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62702. The family of Lily May Hunn is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
