

Madge Elizabeth Zimmerman died on June 20, 2011 in San Francisco, CA. She was born in 1916 in Marion, IL, daughter of LaMont Owen and Myrtle Ritchey Zimmerman. Madge was a devoted and highly talented nursery school and kindergarten teacher in both Springfield, IL in in the 1940’s and 1950’s, and later in San Francisco. She attended the public schools of Springfield, graduating in 1934 from Springfield High School. She then attended Springfield Junior College and national-Louis University.
In 1953 Madge, along with her sister Monte Lee and her mother, became venturous and moved to San Francisco, where she taught in the public grade schools until she retired in 1976 as a head teacher. Her creativity, skill, work ethic and big heart positively influenced the youngsters she guided all along their journeys in school and beyond.
Madge held many interests, including calligraphy, known to anyone who corresponded with her! She was also into drawing, writing, and history. She was a member of the Doll Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her strong connection with Calvary Presbyterian Church in San Francisco provided stability and a community of loving, supportive friends.
Madge was preceded in death by her parents and her sister. She is survived by several cousins in various regions of the United States, friends, and her trusted care giver, all of whom will miss her sweet kindness and lovely disposition.
