

She was born on May 13, 1919 in Griggsville, IL the daughter of the late Harvey L. and Ralphina (Reay) Sleight. She married James C. Henson on June 22, 1945 and he preceded her in death on July 6, 1999.
Mrs. Henson worked as a legal secretary for attorney Harold Tenney, retiring in 1981. Prior to becoming a legal secretary, she graduated from Brown’s Business College in Springfield. She attended Senior Services of Sangamon County, as well as Senior Centers in Decatur and Okeechobee, Fl. was a friend of WILL, and was given an award for philanthropy for support of Senior Services in 2010. She was a member of Cleveland Avenue Methodist Church in Decatur, IL. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Mrs. Henson grew up on a farm in Griggsville, IL. She liked to fish and was very good at it. After retirement, she and her husband spent winters in Okeechobee, FL and their summers camping and fishing on Lake Shelbyville.
She is survived by son James (wife Marcia) Henson of Mt. Vernon, IL; a daughter Kit (husband Thomas) Sponsler of Petersburg; 4 grandchildren, Bob (Kara) Henson, Tammy (Terry) Sugrue, Megan Sponsler, and Jake Sponsler; and 5 great-grandchildren; a brother Ralph H. (wife Marcy) Sleight of Travers City, MI; nieces and nephews.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield where a memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 from 2 pm until time of the memorial service at 3 pm. Per her wishes, cremation rites were accorded.
