Margaret Farney

She was born June 13, 1922 the daughter of Harrison and Grace Agnes Durbin Ballard. She married James J. Farney in Taylorville, IL April 23, 1946 and he preceded her in death April 6, 1970. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Paul richard Ballard in 1982 and Maurice Anthony Ballard in 2010, and her sisters; Mary Jane Grigsby in 1992 and Dorothy Francis Jiesy in 2000.

Margaret and her husband owned and operated motels in Missouri and Arkansas before moving to Springfield. She then worked as an accountant for the Illinois Department of Revenue retiring in 1987. She was a strong willed and independent women with a love for music and an avid reader. Her favorite author was Marry Higgins Clark.

Surviving are three sons; James (wife Peggy) Farney of Decatur, IL., Thomas Farney of Springfield, and John Farney of Henderson, KY., her grandchildren; Jeff Farney of Savannah, GA, Debra Farney of Decatur, IL, Brittney Slusher, Ashley Farney, Michael Farney all of Arkansas, a step grandson, Jim Reeves of Arkansas, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday June 22, 2011 at the Calvary Cemetery Chapel. Rev. Mark Gifford will officiate. Burial will follow there in Calvary Cemetery.
