

Margaret Ann "Maggie" Kuznik, 85, of Springfield passed away at 2:48 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at her home. Maggie was born on February 9, 1925 in Springfield, the daughter of Thomas J. and Anna M. Mattis Durako. She married C. Richard Kuznik on November 30, 1946 in Springfield. He preceded her in death in 1961. She was a graduate of Lanphier High School in 1942 where she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Girls Athletic Association and the Christian Youth Organization. She graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing and completed state boards to be licensed as a Registered Nurse in 1945. She served in the U. S. Army Nurse Cadet Corps at a U.S. Army orthopedic hospital in Cambridge, OH from 1945 to 1946. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care from St. Francis College in Joliet, IL in 1976. Maggie was employed at St. John's Hospital in Springfield for 39 years as a Registered Nurse and Supervisor in the Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Department, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) and a member of AARP since 1989. She was also employed part time at Catholic Charities Medicare- Medicaid Assistance performing eye exams and dental services from 1990 until retiring in 1999. She was a life-long member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lawrence E. Kuznik; a sister, Norma Jean Durako Monohan; and an infant great-grandson, Diego Guerrero. She is survived by her two sons, C. Richard (wife, Sandy) Kuznik II of Bloomington and Ronald J, Kuznik, of Springfield; a daughter, Geraldine A. Kuznik of Springfield; three grandchildren, Stephanie Guerrero, Rick Kuznik and DeeDee Guerrero; 7 great-grandchildren; a nephew; three nieces, one great-niece and several cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield.
