
Margaret P. (Hanes) McKinnon, formerly of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on October 13, 2007, in Sarasota, Florida. Survivors include daughters Cindy McKinnon of Sarasota, Florida, and Sara McKinnon of Pueblo, Colorado; sister Helen (F.P.) Tlapek of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. For the past eight and a half years, she resided at Heron East Assisted Living Facility in Sarasota, where she had many friends among the residents and staff. She was born May 10, 1913, the daughter of C.M. and Mary Ellen (DeBaun) Hanes. She married Edward W. McKinnon on May 4, 1944. He preceded her in death on February 22, 1971. She graduated from Jerseyville (Illinois) High School and attended St. Theresa’s College in Winona, MN, and Washington University in St. Louis, MO. She worked for many years at the Internal Revenue Service in Springfield, Illinois, and retired from there in 1980. She was a member of Sacred Heart and Blessed Sacrament parishes in Springfield. A talented seamstress, she volunteered countless hours of service to Sacred Heart Church while her daughters were growing up. As a loving mother, she helped to mold their lives, providing a wonderful home and family and ensuring that her daughters had excellent educational opportunities. Not only they but many others benefited from her generous and compassionate nature. She was also preceded in death by brothers Charles, Robert, and Albert Hanes and sisters Mary Ward, Anna Carmody, and Kathy Holmes. Memorial contributions may be made to the Educational Foundation of Sarasota County Schools, 1960 Landings Boulevard, Sarasota, Florida 34231. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 W. Walnut Street, Springfield. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
