
Margery Anne Walton, 87, of Higbee, MO, completed her earthly sojourn on September 11, 2015. She was born the third oldest child of Carl and Goldyn (Atterbury) Alewelt on August 8, 1928 in Springfield, IL. Margery was raised during the Depression years, and her parents taught her to care for elderly relatives and neighbors. She was a life-long active member of the Catholic Church and served God in the religious life for 23 years, returning to secular life in 1968. She was a current member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She was a graduate of St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, IL, receiving her BS in Nursing from St Louis University in St. Louis, MO. In 1975, she graduated from Sangamon State University in Springfield with a MA in Sociology and Gerontology. She retired from Moberly Regional Medical Center in 1985. She was certified as a Gerontological Nurse Practioner by the American Nurses Association in 1975, and was a member of the National Right to Life Organization, Missouri Right to Life Organization, the Vitae Society, and Missouri Catholic Conference. On July 2, 1970, she married Steve Walton at St. Joseph Church in Springfield, and he survives her. Also surviving is a brother, Robert C. Alewelt of Springfield, IL and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Hospital, 800 E. Carpenter St., Springfield, IL 62769, Christos Center, 111 N. 5th St., Moberly, MO 65270, or any pro-life organization. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Committal prayers and burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg.
