

Marilyn Freeman, 76, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord on January 20, 2009 at Regency Nursing Care Residence. Marilyn was born on May 30, 1932 in Carlinville, the daughter of Ralph and Hazel Horne Hayes. She married Arthur J. Freeman, Jr. on May 8, 1954 in Carlinville. Marilyn was employed as a disability clerk for the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation and Disability Services for fourteen years. She was a lady with a servant heart, possessing a strong faith in God. Marilyn was a member of Christ the King Parish. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing bridge, reading and taking walks. She volunteered at the Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery. One of her favorite places to spend time was at the family cottage on a lake in the Michigan Upper Peninsula. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Keith Hayes. Marilyn is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Art Freeman of Springfield; five children, Kathleen Freeman of Williamsville, IL, Patrick (wife, Teresa) Freeman of Highpoint, NC, Ann (husband, Randy) Wells of Springfield, Arthur (wife, Genda) Freeman, III of Elkhart and Jean Henigman of Champaign; nine grandchildren, Christopher Howdeshell, Stefanie, Benjamin, Jacob and Noah Freeman, Ashley Freeman, Alexis and Adeline Wells and Emily Henigman; one aunt; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2009 at Christ the King Parish, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery in Girard.
