She was born in Springfield, the daughter of August and Althea (Hartmann) Rechner. Marilyn married Paul Gustafson in 1971. He preceded her in death, in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Rechner.
Marilyn had worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. She was a member of St. Aloysius Church, St. Louise De Marillac Guild, and St. Joseph Home Coterie. Marilyn had volunteered at St. John’s Hospice and C.I.V.S.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy (Victor) Mosny of Chicago; son, Eric (Brooke) Gustafson of California; grandchildren, Jackson August, Tessa Adeline, and Lia Corinne Mosny; brother, A. William (Donna) Rechner; and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Karen (Dan) Kirby.
Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 E. Sangamon Ave., Springfield, followed by the Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. George Nellikunnel, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or a charity of the donor’s choice.
