She was born in Pekin, IL, on March 27, 1951, the daughter of Louis and Florence (Leinweber) Garlisch. Marilyn grew up on her family farm near Forest City, IL, and graduated from Manito High School. Following high school, she went on to earn her beautician’s license.
She married Michael “Mike” Sebring at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Manito, IL on November 7, 1971, and he survives. Also surviving are her daughter, Jennifer (husband Casey) Finley; her two grandsons, Jacob and Ryan Finley all of Sherman, IL; her brother, Richard (wife Linda) Garlisch; her nephew Scott (wife Brandy) Garlisch; and two great-nephews, all of Forest City, IL. Marilyn is also survived by several cousins, whom she also loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Michelle; her parents, Louis and Florence; her uncles, Clarence, Wilfred and George; and her aunt, Ruby.
Marilyn owned and operated a beauty shop in her home for several years. Having her business at home allowed for her to care for her daughter Jennifer in her early years. She was known for her sense of humor, her hospitality and loved visiting with her clients. Later, Marilyn worked alongside her husband as co-owners of M&M Pools/Spas. With her support and strong work ethic, they built a successful business that continues today with her daughter and son-in-law as owners and operators.
Marilyn maintained a deep connection and appreciation to her family roots. She cherished her visits and the gatherings for holidays and special occasions. Marilyn deeply loved and supported her family. She was a devoted and loyal wife to Mike. As a mother, she provided unwavering support and guidance with honesty and consistency. She was a wonderful grandma who played a key role in raising her grandsons while their parents were at work. She was also her grandsons’ top fan at all their activities, especially their sporting events. Regardless of the weather, or anything else that might get in the way, Marilyn was right there with Mike, devoted to supporting Jacob and Ryan as she did Jennifer in her earlier years. She will be long remembered for her outgoing personality, infectious smile, sense of humor, hospitality and genuine care and concern for others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
