

Marilyn was born on February 15, 1932, in Chicago, the daughter of Henry Morris and Doris Triffler. She married Roy C. Selby in Chicago in 1960; he preceded her in death.
Marilyn began her career as a nurse before earning her law degree from Eastern Illinois University and became an attorney. She worked for private law firms and held other legal positions, retiring in her 80s from the City of Springfield. Marilyn was the oldest city employee. She enjoyed traveling, reading, opera, ballet, exercising at the YMCA, and listening to PBS radio. Marilyn volunteered with UIS on the Illinois Innocence Project following her retirement up until her recent illness.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her son, Brian (wife, Angelina Chang) Selby of Singapore; one daughter, Bretta Kennedy of Copperas Cove, TX; five grandchildren, Lian Kim, Li Kim, and Lin, and Kanon and Kian Kennedy; one sister, Arlene Eckhart; and one nephew, Mark Liebrecht.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Ceremony and Memorial Gathering: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Ave. West. Family will receive friends following the Memorial Ceremony until 11:30 a.m.
