Marion was born on May 5, 1939, in Springfield, Ill., the daughter of Gustav and Doris Herter. Marion married Lawrence Wieland on June 13, 1959.
Marion was employed by JCPenneys in Springfield, Goldblatt’s in Decatur, and owned Gifts By “Me”.
Throughout her life Marion touched many people with her creativity and generosity. Knitting prayer shawls for those in need with First Lutheran Church’s Knitting Club was one of her latest avenues for reaching out and bringing comfort to others. Over the years, many neighborhood children experienced first-hand her ability to open her heart and care for them. Countless people were touched by her card ministry over the years as well. Everyone knew Marion loved to craft in the winter and could be found in her garden in the summer.
Along with her husband Lawrence, Marion is survived by her children: Amy Bilello of Northbrook, IL, Abby (husband Robert) LaSala of Denver, CO, Meg Young of Decatur, IL, and Tina (husband Steve) Welch of Monticello, IL; her sister, Virginia (husband Ken) Wendling of Taylorville, IL, and her brother, Martin (wife Bertie) Herter of Parker, CO; 6 grandchildren -- Sophia, Abby, Ian, Drew, Jake and Josh and 1 great grandchild, Jaidyn.
Preceding Marion in death are her parents, her son Andy, and her sister Doris.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 17, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 South Koke Mill Road, Springfield IL 62711.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
