

Marjorie Ann Newton, 95, of Springfield, died at 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Concordia Village. Marjorie was born May 10, 1921 in Atterberry, IL, the daughter of Frank Rudolph and Zella Jane Clary Kobiela. She married Merritt H. Newton, II in 1950 at First United Methodist Church in Springfield; he preceded her in death in 1997. Marjorie graduated from Petersburg Harris High School in 1939 and earned her associate's degree from Monticello College in Godfrey, IL in 1941. She retired in 1990 after a little more than 37 years of service as a Secretary for the State Office of Public Instruction, State Board of Education. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, P.E.O.Chapter BF, King's Daughters Organization, and the Ansarettes. Marjorie enjoyed being with her family, often traveling to Florida and her grandchildren's sporting events. Her collection of angels greeted guests as they walked in her door. She will be lovingly remembered for her smile, sense of humor, and pleasantness towards others. She was also preceded in death by her parents and son, Merritt H. "Buzz" Newton, III. She is survived by her daughter, Sally A. (husband, Dennis) Taylor of Ft. Myers, FL; two grandchildren, Kelly (husband, James) Weber of Atlanta, GA and Gregory (wife, Jenny) Taylor of Fenton, MO; and great-grandchildren, Dutch Weber, Pierce Weber, Kenzie Taylor, and Logan Taylor. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:30 until 5:30 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Concordia Lutheran Village Chapel, 4101 W. Iles Ave., Springfield. Marjorie loved bright colors, especially purple. She was OFTEN complimenting others about their appearance. Therefore, her family is asking you to celebrate her life by wearing colorful and relaxed attire. Visitation and Graveside Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
