Martha Mathilde Castaldo

Martha Mathilde Castaldo, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Oak Terrace Health Care. Martha was born February 21, 1923 in Wurzburg, Germany, the daughter of Otto and Mathilde Lendner. She married John James Castaldo in Wurzburg, Germany. He preceded her in death. Martha was born and married in Germany and later moved to Chicago and then Downers Grove. She was a devout Catholic and belonged to St. Joseph's Church in Downers Grove. She was a homemaker and taught classical piano and French. Martha spoke five languages. She loved her family and friends, animals, feeding the squirrels and dog sitting. Martha loved to help people, especially at her church and school. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John Castaldo. She is survived by two sons, John (wife, Rika) Castaldo of York, SC and Dr. Raymond (wife, Debbie) Castaldo of Springfield; one daughter, Martha (husband, Steven) Reichel of Minneapolis, MN; and eight grandchildren, Jessica Cromwell, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Chase, Grant, and Andrea Castaldo and Blake and Taylor Reichel. The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Rd., Hillside, IL at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010.
