

Mary Heinz Garzoni, 89, of Springfield, died at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. John's Hospice. Mary was born January 13, 1927 in LaSalle, Illinois, the daughter William V. and Angela Weyand Heinz. On August 16, 1952, she married Edward G. Garzoni in Chicago, IL. During their 55 years of marriage the couple lived in Chicago, IL, Door County, WI, Destin, FL, Huntsville, AL and Springfield, IL. Mary was a graduate of LaSalle Peru High School and earned her BA degree in Music in 1948 from Mundlelin College in Chicago. Mrs. Garzoni had an extensive business career earning the title of Senior Vice President of Charles A. Stevens and Co. in Chicago. She was the recipient of numerous awards for her outstanding contributions to the retail industry, as well as awards for innovative training programs in retail. She served as a mentor to many women and men and frequently declared; "I like to grow people." Mary enjoyed singing in church choirs and was a member of Christ the King Church. She was also a member of the St. Louise de Marillac Guild, Springfield Garden Club, and the American Pen Women (Local and National). Mary's other interests included writing, cooking, entertaining, and helping people. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; her brother, William J. Heinz; and her sister, Elizabeth Heinz Graff. She is survived by one niece; four nephews; and numerous special friends, including John and Kathy Lamar. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Christ the King Church, 1930 Barberry, Springfield. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Christ the King Church with Rev. Joseph Ring, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Baileys Harbor, WI at a later date.
