

She was born March 18, 1919 in St. Louis the daughter of Alfred and Pearl Niekamp Hagemann. She married David W. Godfrey June 18, 1944 in St. Louis and he preceded her in death in 2000.
A homemaker and fiber artist, Mary Ann created many beautiful museum quality wool hooked rugs, wall hangings, pillows, counted cross stitch, cross stitch cruel work and Italian cut work. She loved to travel both the United States and Europe and was quite the adventurer in Alaska and Hawaii.
She was a member of Marianna’s Cardinal Rug Hookers Guild, National Guild of Pearl K. McGown Rug Hook crafters, Beta Sigma Phi, Job’s Daughters and with her husband was a charter member of the Santa Fe Trail Society. She enjoyed her granddaughters and had a special place in her heart for her great grandchildren. She was crazy for M and M’s, and always noticed the “pretty blue sky”. Everyone who met her said she was a “sweet lady with a beautiful smile”.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Godfrey of Oak Park and Barbara Patterson (husband, Robert) of Springfield; granddaughters, Jennifer McDonald of Springfield and Krista Rybak (husband, Mike) of Webster Groves, Mo.; Great grandchildren, Joshua, Kaleb and Ashlyne McDonald, Tyler, Emily, Abby and Kyle Rybak; Step grandchildren, Rob and Liz Patterson, Don and Gail Patterson, Tom and Kim Patterson and Debra and Sean Power; step great grandchildren, Nick Patterson, D.J. Patterson, Joanna Patterson, Amani Patterson and Ryan Power.
Friends may call Tuesday July 8, 2014 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel from 9:30 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kathleen Sweet officiating. Interment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2309 W.
