

Mary Homa, of Springfield, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at her family home. Mrs. Homa had just celebrated her 95th birthday on January 10, 2007. Mrs. Homa was born on January 10, 1912 in Tahanoce, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Michael and Mary Varholic Tresso. She married Andrew Homa on February 23, 1930, in Springfield; he preceded her in death on December 4, 1978. Mrs. Homa was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where she was very active in church life and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Mrs. Homa was an AVON representative for fifteen years and also served as an election judge. Mrs. Homa enjoyed watching the television news, ice-skating, ballroom dancing and animal shows. She loved animals, including her beloved cat “Marigold”, and over the years she took in many stray animals. She enjoyed flower gardening, crafts, sewing and especially cooking. An excellent cook, she was known for saying “save room for dessert”, as she enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. Mrs. Homa was a very giving woman dedicated to her husband and family. She enjoyed a wonderful, long life and in all of her ninety-five years, she considered her family as her greatest accomplishment. She was also preceded in death by one brother: Michael Mathew Tresso. She is survived by one son: Andrew (wife, Barb) Homa of Springfield; two daughters: Marilyn (husband, James) Toomey of LaGrange, KY and Kathy (husband David Harren) of Springfield; four grandchildren: Drew (companion, Mano Chui) Stephens, Elizabeth Ann “Beth” (husband, Mark) Pallante, Mary Kathryn “Missy” (husband, Kevin) Cartwright and Stephen (wife, Dawn) Homa; six great-grandchildren: Ashley and Zachary Pallante, Lucas Homa and Caleb, Joshua and Noah Cartwright; one sister-in-law: Pauline Tresso and numerous nieces and nephews. Public visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St. Springfield. Following visitation a Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas P. Holinga, VF celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family of Mary Homa is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
