

Mary Agnes Lazzeri, 93, of Springfield, passed away at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at St. Josephs Home. Mary was born on December 18, 1924 in New Berlin, the daughter of Jeremiah and Genevieve Stapleton Sullivan. She married David J. Lazzeri on October 26, 1946; he preceded her in death in 2008. Mary was a graduate of New Berlin High School where she was a Pretzel cheerleader. As a young girl, she delivered milk by horseback around New Berlin. Mary was a graduate of Browns Business College and worked for the Diocesan Chancery Office under Msgr. Driscoll, and then for Illinois Bell Telephone Company. Together with her husband, they operated St. Johns Coffee Shop for 42 years. They also owned and operated Lazzeris restaurant, and Mary served as the VP of Lazzeris, Inc. Food Service. She was a Samaritan of St. Johns Hospital, a member of the St. Josephs Home Coterie and St. Josephs Church Altar and Rosary Society, and volunteered at the Right to Life Center. Mary was a devoted wife and mother and delighted in gatherings of family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, singing and her Irish heritage. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jeremiah, Robert, Daniel, and Thomas Sullivan; two sisters, Sr. Mary Jeremiah, OP and Patricia Fitzgerald; and one son-in-law, Simon Cory. She is survived by one son, David (wife, Susan) Lazzeri of Avondale, PA; six daughters, Mary Kathleen Cory, Eileen (husband, Fred) Streb, Colleen (husband, Mike) Johnson, and Noreen Luhr, all of Springfield, Marleen (husband, Mike) Condit of Bloomfield Village, MI, and Laureen (husband, Brian) Fitzgerald of Indianapolis, IN; 30 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (wife, Susan) Sullivan of Venice, FL and Timothy (wife, Kathleen) Sullivan of Middletown, NJ; one sister, Therese (husband, Albert) Rechner of Springfield; two sisters-in-law, Rita Sullivan of Springfield and Agnes Sullivan of Zionsville, IN; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her St. Josephs Home family. The Lazzeris wish to thank all the staff, sisters, and residents at St. Josephs Home who became Marys family over the past nine years. Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2018 at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield. A Funeral Mass will begin at 7:15 p.m. with Fr. Patrick Render, CSV, celebrant. Private family burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
