She was born on June 14, 1936, in Springfield, the daughter of John R. and Helen E. (Shupenus) Thomas. Mary married Norman Mack on August 17, 1957, in Springfield. He preceded her in death, on August 28, 2017.
Mary graduated from Ursuline Academy and attended Springfield College, where she met her husband. She went on to work for Estee Lauder at Famous Barr, and as a first-grade teacher at St. Joseph’s School. Mary was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and a past member of the Federated Junior Women’s, Island Bay, and Lakeshore clubs. She enjoyed shopping, going to the Fit Club, listening to disco music, and loved the color yellow.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Mary is survived by her sons, Stephen (Karen) Mack of Divernon, Jeffrey (partner, John McIntyre) Mack of Greenview, and Greg (Allyson) Mack of Springfield; grandchild, Elizabeth Mack of Springfield; sister-in-law, Linda Mack of Ave Maria, FL; and several cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, followed by the Funeral at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
