
Mary Simko McGrath, 91, a life long resident of Springfield, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Villa Healthcare East in Sherman. Mary was born September 5, 1909 the daughter of Stephen A. and Mary Kafka Simko in Springfield. She married Patrick F. McGrath in 1947 in Springfield. Mrs. McGrath was a graduate of Springfield High School and of Illinois State University in Normal. She taught school for district 186 and retired in 1966 after 36 years of teaching. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Alter and Rosary Society and the Retired Teachers Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Patrick F. McGrath; three brothers: Andrew, John and Stephen Simko. She is survived by five brothers: Emory Simko, Louis Simko and James Simko, all of Springfield, Frank Simko and Thomas Simko both from Galt, California; three sisters: Sr Anne Simko O.S.U. of Alton, Kathryn Carey of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Regina Disco of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 12:30 Friday, April 6, 2001 with Father Jim Simko and Father William Kessler. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contriubtions can be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 1725 S. Walnut Springfield, IL 62704.
