

Mary Lois Roland, 80, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2002 at her home. Mary was born September 4, 1922 in Princeton, Indiana the daughter of Albert and Corinne Davidson Sanders. She married E. Earl Roland March 29, 1952 at the Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood, MO. Mary was a graduate of Belleville High School in Belleville, IL. She earned her Nursing Degree from St. Louis City Hospital Nursing School in St. Louis, MO. She also earned a Bachelor of Social Science from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. She served in the Army Nurses Corps during WWII stationed in the United Kingdom and France. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, being a member since 1959. She was President of the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), a member of the Board of Directors of Lincoln Library and the Family Service Center, President of several Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) and a member of PEO. She is survived by her husband Earl of Springfield; five children: Raymond (wife, Mary Beth) Roland, Patricia (husband, Jim) Mees both of Springfield, Robert W. Roland of St. Augustine, FL, Martin D. (wife, Kathy) Roland of Cape Coral, FL; Edwin E. (wife, Betsy) Roland of Chatham, N.J.; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother: James (wife, Iola) Sanders of Flagstaff, AZ; one sister: Martha Sauer of Tulsa, OK and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church from 12-1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2003. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Lonnie Lee, assisted by Reverend Shelly Wood. Entombment will follow at Oak Ridge Mausoleum with military honors. Memorial Contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church 533 S. Walnut, Springfield, IL 62704.
