

Mary Alice Wheeler, 83, of Springfield, died at 12:55 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. Mary was born April 7, 1929 in Springfield, the daughter of Vivian and Faye Shelby Harwood. She married Wendell Wheeler on November 26, 1947 in Springfield. Mary was a cook at Pleasant Plains school district, preparing meals from scratch for the children. She was very involved in her church and loved her church family. Mary enjoyed quilting, bowling, and was an avid Cubs fan. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Harwood; and one daughter, Linda Lund. She is survived by her husband, Wendell Wheeler of Springfield; one son, David (wife, Patricia) Wheeler of Petersburg; two daughters, Terry McMillan of Springfield, and Karen (husband, Bill) Dodd of Normal; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald (wife, Nadine) Harwood of Springfield. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Keppler officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
