

Matthew Leo Holland, 93, of Springfield, died at 2:05 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2005 at his daughter’s home in Sherman. Matthew was born March 25, 1912 in Virden the son of Matthew and Rose McCarthy Holland. He married Fayne L. Grimmett in 1943 in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Holland worked for the U.S. Postal Office for 37 years as a postal clerk and later worked for several years for the Illinois Department of Public Aid. He had been a longtime member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the American Postal Workers Union and U.S. Postal Retiree’s Club. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Holland and a sister, Rose Spengal. He is survived by his wife: Fayne of Springfield; one daughter: Holly (husband, Jay) Adams of Sherman; two granddaughters: Lindsey (husband, Jeremy) Stuenkel and Kimberly (husband, Jason) Noyes; one great grandson: Caleb Stuenkel; one nephew; two nieces; several great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece. Family will receive friends from 4-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St. Springfield with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Hospital, Hospice Program, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62702.
