

Matt was born August 25, 1983, in Springfield, the son of Marty (Lisa) Mau and Maureen Frier Mau.
He attended the public schools of Glenwood High School in Chatham, IL; Lincoln Land Community College; and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Matt earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Matt was employed at Prairie State Gaming. At an early age, he showed his love of God, family, and country. Matt was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chatham, IL.
Matt was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion, VFW Auxiliary, Shrine Mason, and a Trustee of the Village of Chatham for 11 years. He was a past member of TRN, Model Illinois Government, and was a student board member at Lincoln Land Community College. Matt also played an active role in political campaigns. As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, he was loved by many. Matt’s life was filled with love and laughter and his influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. He had a great passion for playing poker and good bourbon. He was taken away too soon.
Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Dorothy Mau, Frank DeMunbrun, William and Gertrude Frier; and nephew, Grady Scott.
His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his family: father, Martin (Lisa) Mau of Chatham, IL; mother, Maureen Mau of Sebring, FL; sisters, Tiffany Thursby of Auburn, IL, Tonya Gibbs of Carlinville, IL, and Meghan Mau of Indianapolis, IN; grandmother, Judy DeMunbrun of Carlinville, IL; nephew, Griffin Gibbs; niece, Graylyn Gibbs, devoted family members and friends, including a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Chatham, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, IL.
Memorial Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Chatham with Rev. Richard Harre officiating.
Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Ceremony.
