Melinda was born on January 12, 1971, in Danville, the daughter of Gaylord Hall and Roberta (Ward) Hall.
She graduated from Springfield High School in 1989 and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Maryland. Melinda was an intern in Washington for the Presidential Young Americans. She worked as substitute teacher and worked at Disney World in Florida as a monorail and boat driver, then came back to Illinois and helped restore historical homes. Melinda began working at the Dana Thomas House and Allegiant Airlines once she was back in Springfield, which was significant to her love of traveling. Later she worked for Hope Vision Academy as a job counselor then for DCFS and the Department of Agriculture for the State of Illinois in Springfield.
Melinda was active with the Springfield Theater, behind the scenes, and active in her church missionaries traveling to Haiti during her high school years. Later she became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She volunteered at the genealogy library in Danville and did much work in discovering her family’s ancestry back many generations. Melinda loved traveling, visiting 48 of the United States, many with her mother on their many adventures together, and traveling to Europe. She enjoyed music, attending concerts, and spending time with her beloved dog, Toby. She was able to see the Barenaked Ladies 17 times live and attended many other concerts here and abroad. Melinda touched everyone’s hearts and she knew people all over the world. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She fought cancer for 9 years and she never stopped living her life, never slowed down, and truly knew that life needed to be lived. She taught us all that rest is when you die, and life is to be lived.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gaylord; sister, Deborah Hall, and beloved dog, Max.
