Michael was born on November 21st, 1950, in Springfield, Illinois to Gennaro and Margery Castelletti. On October 30, 1976, he married Judith A. Rueter of Springfield. Together they raised two children, Aaron and Dorann.
Mike was an easy going, kindhearted, gentle soul to all who knew him. Along with his wife, he was also a cancer survivor, having survived lung cancer as well as fighting COPD for a long portion of his life. He had a passion for collecting coins and model trains. Many people remember his train table in his home, complete with a homemade plaster mountain. He had several jobs in Springfield, including ones at Sangamo Co. and St John’s hospital, but his vested job was at Pillsbury where he worked in both the bakery mix area and warehouse. He then later transferred to continue his career at Pillsbury/General Mills in Martel, Ohio. He loved watching his sports and spending as much time as possible with his family and grandkids. Mike’s children (and grandchildren) were a constant support system in his life. The legacy of Mike’s kind nature, willingness to always help, daily indecisiveness, humor, and his kind and compassionate heart will live on through his family.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Judith; parents; sister in-law; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his two children, Aaron (Cori) Castelletti of Springfield and Dorann (Kyle) Mendenhall of Williamsville; two grandchildren, Hunter and Hayden Mendenhall; brother, Jim Castelletti of Springfield; as well as his niece and nephew and their children; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation tribute Center.
