

Michael B. Etchill, 61, of Springfield died on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at St. John's Hospital. Michael was born on December 9, 1948 in Chicago. His parents, Fred Etchill and June Edwards preceded him death. He married Mary V. Logue in 1975 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Springfield. Michael graduated from Lanphier High School and attended Lincoln Land Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and worked as a truck driver for the Department of Public Aid until his retirement in 1995. Michael was a past president of the Greater Springfield Bowling Association and past tournament director for SAYABA. He also devoted 25+ years to a local youth bowling league. He was a member of the local Teamsters union and the VFW. He enjoyed bowling and watching NASCAR. He was a big St. Louis Cardinals and Oakland Raiders fan. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary of Springfield; his children, Brittany (husband, Jeffrey) Hand, Ryan Etchill, and Vanessa (husband, Tommy) Jones, all of Springfield; three grandchildren, Alexander, Arianna and Evelyn; a brother, Fred (wife, Patty) Etchill of Spaulding; two sisters, Barb Pinkston of Inverness, FL and Patty (husband, Leon) Retoff of KY; his uncle Frank (wife, June) Yohn of Princeton, IL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
