

Michael Angelo Fafoglia, 66, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born August 22, 1951 to Angelo and Gloria (Molash) Fafoglia in Springfield. He married Sandra Sims on October 22, 1994 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatham, IL.
Mike graduated from Glenwood High School and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. A certified public accountant for 42 years, Mike retired as partner from Estes, Bridgewater, and Ogden in 2015.
Mike loved music, playing bass guitar and trumpet in several bands, most recently playing trumpet in the Capital Area Concert Band. He loved golfing with his friends and with the Thursday Evening Elks Golf League, and vacationing in Sanibel Island, Florida.
Mike bowled with the Springfield Civic Club, and was a member of Sertoma of Springfield and the Springfield Elks Club.
A devoted father and grandfather, Mike especially enjoyed coaching his daughter’s softball team. Papa Mike was loved and admired by all of his grandchildren.
Mike was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatham.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Springfield; daughter Erin (Phil) Vuollet of Orland Park; stepson, Larry (Sheila) Sims, of Sherman; stepdaughter, Amy (Stephen) Condon of Pawnee; grandchildren, Angelo, Emilia, and Leonardo Vuollet, Nathan and Wyatt Sims, Andrea and Sydney Condon, Sephra and Alex Urbas and Joe Gooch; his sister Dianne (Jerry) Wittkoff of Denver, CO, and his brother David (Phillip) Fafoglia of Springfield.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Springfield. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatham. Funeral mass will be on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10 am at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatham, with Father John Nolan officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sertoma Club of Springfield or to the Springfield Boys and Girls Club.
