

Michele Dunbar, 93, of Springfield, said bon voyage to her Earthly home on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Shes off on another adventure. Her journey started as Evelyn Margaret Diethrich, born on Saturday, July 19, 1924 in Edgewood, PA to Albert Michael and Elizabeth Charlotte Button Diethrich. Michele was a graduate of Edgewood High School. Michele attended Pennsylvania University and majored in drama. She moved to Texas to serve in WWII as a WAC as a photographer. She then went to Santa Paula, CA. Michele was a catering manager for the Leland Hotel, Holiday Inn East, and Top of the Arch. She also worked for the State of IL Employment Services. Michele, along with Josephine Oblinger, founded the Sojourn House. She was also involved in Welcome Wagon, Newcomers, and Powder Puff. Michele loved her chocolate, coffee, Philadelphia cream cheese, bridge, politics, music, theater, womens rights, enjoying a good book, a dry Manhattan, and dancing the night away. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Pamela Michele Dunbar Weihmeir Deal; and one sister, Ruth Louise Bounds. She is survived by her sons, Rick A. (wife, Sue) Dunbar and Michael Austin (wife, Linda) Dunbar, both of Springfield; one daughter, Patricia Jo (husband, Tom) Dunbar Sloman of Morrisonville; ten grandchildren, Timothy (wife, Chrissy) Dunbar, Tammy (husband, Mike) Moomey, Tod Dunbar, Miranda Dunbar, Jennifer (husband, Barrett Schultz) Dunbar, Katie (husband, Ryan) Davison, Melissa Dunbar, Amy (husband, Jason) Stiff, Chad (wife, Elizabeth) Sloman, and Sarah Dee Weihmeir; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Elizabeth Finfrock; and dear friends, Maureen Lober, Marilyn Kyes, and Sydney Kling. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. The Memorial Gathering will begin with military honors provided by the Department of Defense. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Morrisonville, IL.
