

She was born in St. Louis, MO, August 21, 1917, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Hoelscher) Schulze. She married Harry Bowden April 23, 1944, in Springfield, and he preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Edward M. Schulze.
Millie retired in 1982 from Springfield School District 186 where she taught Mathematics at Lanphier High School. She was a longtime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honor society for women educators, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, and Lincoln Land Retired Teachers Association.
Millie was very proud of her family. She enjoyed spending time with them and attended as many of their activities as possible.
She is survived by her children; Sue Bowden, Carol (husband Dr. H. Brent) DeLand, Charlie (wife Diana) Bowden and Art (wife Sue) Bowden, all of Springfield. She has 3 grandchildren; Heather (husband Brian) MacGregor of Chicago, Joshua (wife Sarah) DeLand of Tucson, AZ and Nathan DeLand of Springfield. There are several nieces/nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday Dec. 22, 2012, from 11:30 am until time of funeral services at 1:00 pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church 2645 Old Jacksonville Rd, Springfield, IL, with Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Radtke and Rev. Daniel Eggold officiating. In keeping with her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Inurnment will be at a later date in Roselawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, those that wish may direct memorial contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church 220 S. 2nd St. Springfield, IL 62701 or a charity of choice.
