

Mildred Kelly Furrie, of Springfield, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at St. John’s Hospice. Kelly was born May 12, 1912 in Beaver Falls, PA the daughter of John P. and Nora Brosnahan Kelly. She married James M. Furrie, M.D. December 26, 1939 in Coraopolis, PA.; he preceded her in death 1988. She was also preceded in death by one son: Patrick Francis Furrie. Mrs. Furrie graduated from high school in Coraopolis, PA and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Carnegie-Melon University. She taught home economics in Monaca, PA, the School of Domestic Arts and Sciences and Roosevelt University in Chicago. She moved to Springfield in 1949 and was a member of Blessed Sacrament and St. Agnes Catholic Churches, St. Joseph’s Home Coterie and the Sangamo Club. She is survived by a son: James Michael (wife, Lesley) Furrie of Ashville, NC; four daughters: Kathleen F. (husband, Dennis) Kelly of Rochester, Margaret A. (husband, Edward) Clayton of Arnold, MO, Mary T. Furrie of Springfield, Eileen K. (husband, Michael) DeRoze of Springfield; nine grandchildren: James Kelly, Theresa Gegen, Maureen Slaughter, Melissa, Kristin, and Matthew Furrie, Katie Furrie, Cassie and Clint DeRoze; six great grandchildren; two sisters: Dorothy Pyle of Pittsburg, PA, Jeannette Griffin of Silver Springs, MD and twenty-three nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends 4-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave. Springfield with Rev. Peter C. Harman celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick School, 1800 E. South Grand Ave. Springfield, IL 62703.
