Nancy Ann (Curtis) Lyon of Springfield, Illinois, formerly of Hedrick, Iowa, went to meet her Lord on Friday, November 28, 2025. Nancy was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on May 26, 1945, the daughter of George Harold and Marjorie (Knaak) Curtis. She was their first child and only daughter, followed by five younger brothers.
On May 6, 2000 Nancy and Robert (Bob) Lyon were joined in marriage. They had both retired from their careers and lived thereafter in Springfield.
Nancy graduated from Pekin of Packwood High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in Kirkville, Missouri, from NE Missouri State Teacher’s College, now named Truman State University. She first taught elementary children, later moving into teaching special education. She eventually was a supervisor of special education at the Illinois State Board of Education.
Nancy was a loving, compassionate woman, especially toward children. That was evidenced by her passion for special education and her doting love of her many nieces and nephews. She and Robert loved to travel and for a time made a goal of visiting all the state capitol buildings. They did not achieve this goal, but had many good memories from numerous road trips.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband Robert, brothers Mark (Marilyn) Curtis and Terry (Vicky) Curtis, and a grand number of nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Harvey, Gregory and John.
A visitation will be held on Monday December 8, 2025 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road, Springfield, Illinois. A burial will take place at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Martinsburg, Iowa and those services are entrusted to Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, Iowa. Condolences may be left at www.bischfuneralhomewest.com.
