

Nancy McCabe, 80, of Springfield, died at 6:10 a.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2006 at St. John’s Hospice. Nancy was born March 29, 1926 in Urbana, the daughter of Shelley H. and Ruth Yantis Gee. She married Bernard J. McCabe on May 4, 1946 at Blessed Sacrament; he preceded her in death in 1995. Nancy was a graduate of Springfield High School and a homemaker. She was very active in women's golf, having organized Lincoln Greens Women's Golf Association in 1949, Pasfield Tuesday Women's Golf Association, and Springfield Women's Association of Golf (SWAG) in 1950. She was a twenty-plus year volunteer as pressroom chief, Director of Player Services and a member of the Board of Director's of the LPGA Rail Golf Classic. She was a past member of the Lake Press Club. She is survived by two sons: Col. (Ret.) Bernard J. (wife, Janie) McCabe, Jr. of Houston, TX, and Michael (wife, Robin) McCabe of Springfield; two daughters: Patty (husband, Sam) Snell of Auburn, and Libby (husband, Mike) Mayes of Silver Spring, MD; nine grandchildren: Laura Konitzer, Katie McCabe, Jennifer Anderson, Michelle Goulet, Erin, Amy and Allison McCabe, Sara and Andy Mayes; two step-grandchildren: Khloe Broelmann, and Mandy Schulze; two great-grandchildren: Mac Konitzer, and Kaitlin Anderson; two step-great-grandchildren: Nathaniel & Samuel Broelmann; four cousins: Dick and Carl Freeman, Andrea Barham, and Bette Ann Widows; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield with Rev. Robert Jallas celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. John’s Hospital, Hospice Program, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62702.
