

Newton Coy, Jr., 81, of Springfield, died at 6:20 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center. Newton was born January 27, 1923 in Virginia, IL the son of Newton Charles, Sr. and Hazel Birnbaum Coy. He married Virginia Howard September 1, 1946 in Springfield. Mr. Coy was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII. Prior to entering the service he was employed at Sangamo Electric. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and worked at Coy’s Market as the meat cutter. Newton was very easy going, self-entertaining, funny, artistic and a very honorable man. He enjoyed going to the Teletrack and betting on horses. He also enjoyed baseball and dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Jacqueline Coy and brother, Lyle Coy. He is survived by his wife: Virginia Coy of Springfield; two daughters: Carolyn (husband, Brian) Kenney of Linn Creek, MO, Linda Gabriel of Springfield; one son: Ted (wife, Margaret) Coy of Ozark, MO; seven grandchildren: Lori and Martha Killion, John Gabriel all of Springfield, Brad and Megan Coy of Ozark, MO, Matthew and Krista Kenney of Linn Creek, MO; two great grandchildren: Kelsey Killion and Kale Lash both of Springfield; one sister: Betty Lou Dalbey of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield with Rev. Peter Wehrly and Rev. John Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family of Newton Coy, Jr. is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
