

Norman S. Sandner, 68, of Athens, formerly of Springfield, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2003 at St. John’s Hospital. Norman was born February 18, 1935 in Rochester, the son of Fred and Marie Reece Sandner. He married Rose Marie Trello on July 13, 1979 in Springfield. Norman served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He was employed by the City of Springfield, Department of Streets from 1953 to 1984. Norman also worked at St. Agnes School and the Illinois Department of Human Services before retiring in 1999. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 437 and attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Athens. Norman was an avid gardener, outdoorsman and cook. He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-sister, Elizabeth Clark. He is survived by his wife: Rose Marie; three daughters: Jill (husband, John) Moyer of Springfield, Jennifer (husband, Christopher) Campbell of Mackinaw, and Leeanne (husband, Rod) Scherpe of Galesburg; two brothers: Fred of New Berlin and William of Springfield; one step-sister: Caroline DePriest of Collinsville; five grandchildren: Jynelle Moyer, Jordan, Carolyn and Reagan Scherpe and Mitchell Campbell; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2003. Funeral services are at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2003 with Rev. Msgr. Eugene E. Costa officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.
