Parish L. Tanner, Sr.

Parish L. Tanner, Sr., 77, passed away peacefully on his ranch in Pearce, AZ on Thursday, July 21, 2016. Parish was born February 12, 1939 in Jacksonville, the son of Lee Roy and Alice Parish Tanner. He married Billie Maisenbacher on December 1, 1995 in Hannibal, Missouri. Parish graduated from Springfield High School in 1957. He then went on to graduate from Southern Methodist University in 1969. While finishing school, Parish enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving from 1961 to 1969, including active duty from 1965 until 1967. He worked as an Operating Engineer from 1963 until 2004. Parish was a past member of A.B.AT.E. of Illinois, a life member of HOG, a life member of the NRA, and a member of the American Legion. He was owner of the Dugout Inn in Springfield, IL. He enjoyed golfing, motorcycle riding, and was proud of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Leslie Tanner; and half-sister, Gracie Brandt. He is survived by his wife, Billie Tanner of Pearce, AZ; two sons, Gary P. Tanner of Aurora, MO and Parish Lee (Shona) Tanner, Jr. of Ocala, FL; three daughters, Pamela K. (Bob) Burris of Springfield, IL, Renae (Steve) Purvis of Rockway Beach, MO, and Alice (George) Collins of Ocala, FL; three stepdaughters, Tamis (Kevin) Fishel of Springfield, Cynthia (Kurtis) Bueltman of Monticello, IL, and Lisa Seitz (fianc, Jerry Patterson) of Millersville, IL; sixteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew. Cremation was accorded prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. An additional gathering will be held from 10:30 until 11:15 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Memorial Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
