

Patrick J. Krall, 78, of New Berlin, passed away at 11:25 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at his home. Patrick was born on July 7, 1938 in Virginia, MN, the youngest son of George Peter and Margaret M. Boho Krall. He married Brenda Cuppoletti on December 24, 1959 in Virginia, MN; they were married 42 years and she preceded him in death in 2002. Together, they had six children. Patrick graduated from Mountain Iron High School in Minnesota. While in high school, Patrick played for the Red Raiders from the 9th-12th grade. He earned letters in the 9th, 11th and 12th grades. He lost the entire 10th grade season due to a broken leg. His other honors included being named to the 2nd Team All-Conference in 1955, Arrowhead Conference Champions in 1955, and playing in the American Legion North/South All Star Game in 1956 when his North squad beat the South 32-0. In 2011, he was inducted into the Mountain Iron/Buhl Hall of Fame. In 1957, Patrick played freshman football for the University of Minnesota. In 1958, he transferred to Virginia Junior College, and that year they won the Northern Junior College Conference Championship. He was named All American, All Conference and Most Valuable Player. In 1959, Patrick transferred to the University of Wisconsin Stout, where he played both offense and defense. In 1961, he was named All Conference and voted Stout's Most Valuable Player, also being voted the Best Blocker. As an offensive tackle, he was recognized as one of the most rugged to play that position in the history of the conference. He received All Conference honors in each of his three years at Stout and in 1959, won NAIA All American recognition. In 1962, he signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings. In 1979, he was elected to the University of Wisconsin Stout Athletic Hall of Fame. One of his most memorable football moments was in 1957, while playing in the University of Minnesota spring football game against the Gopher Alumni, he got to play with the likes of Minnesota greats Bud Grant, Bronco Nagurski, Leo Nomellini, Clayton Tonnemaker, Verne Gagne and Billy Bye. Most importantly and above all the awards, he valued the lasting friendships he made playing the great sport of football. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin Stout with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Education, he worked as an Instructor and Supervisor of Regional Training for Allis-Chalmers for 29 years, from 1962 to 1991, traveling the world going to countries like Singapore, Libya, Switzerland and Australia, as well as, all of the United States and Canada. After his retirement from Fiat Allis, he bought the Time Out Tap in New Berlin and made it a family business for the next 15 years. He also drove a school bus for New Berlin School District for many years. Patrick's number one priority was always his family and he made sure they knew where he stood on matters of family, faith, education and politics. Patrick suffered a stroke in 2008 and was relentless in his fight to regain his independence. His favorite place was always his home town of Mountain Iron, Minnesota and he tried to get there every year. This is where he seemed to find peace in family and memories made there. Patrick was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gerald Krall. He is survived by his children, Katherine Krall, Michael (Kathi) Krall, Theresa (Randy Hudson) Krall, and Adam Krall, all of New Berlin, Mark (Holley) Krall of Rockford, and Steven (Rafael) Sosa-Krall of Seattle; grandchildren, Mary Katherine "Katie" Krall, Patrick Joseph Krall, Alexandria Leigh Krall, and Olivia Marie Sosa-Krall; brother, George (Lou) Krall of LaCrosse, WI; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017 at McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, 714 East Gibson Street, New Berlin, IL with a prayer service starting at 3:45pm. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 304 E. Birch St., New Berlin, IL with Rev. Kevin M. Laughery, celebrant.
