

Paul G. “Pete” Dixon Jr., 72 of Springfield, passed away at 4:32 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2001 at St. John’s Hospital Pete was born July 8, 1929 the son of Paul G. and Agnes Keely Dixon in Springfield. He married Patricia Dixon in 1952, she preceded him in death in 1992. He married Sallie Conway in 1993. Mr. Dixon was a purchasing agent for Certified Equipment & Manufacturing Company until 1982. He worked for CWLP as a Utility Property Manager until retiring in 1992. He was a very active member at St. Agnes Catholic Church where he was head usher. He had also been very active member of Christ the King Church. He was a Corporal in the Army during the Korean Conflict. A member of Knights of Columbus Council 364, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign War (VFW), Order of the Eagles, Holy Name Society and he was also a member of the Sons and Daughters of Erin. He was a die-hard Cub fan and loved the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He volunteered for several schools including, St. Agnes and Sacred Heart Griffin. Pete was active in selling tickets for Sacred Heart Griffin Raffle and he volunteered at the Moscacolli Dinner at Sacred Heart Griffin for several years. He was active as an officer and a coach for various sports leagues. He was a former president of South West Democratic Central Committee, Democratic County Chairman and Democratic Precinct Committeeman for several years. He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Dixon, five brothers and sisters: Elaine Bruce, Marilyn McKinney, Robert, Richard and Jerome Dixon, and a grandson, Matthew Ryan. He is survived by his wife Sallie Dixon of Springfield; three sons: Paul (wife, Delia) Dixon of Springfield, Philip (wife, Rena) Dixon of Springfield, Preston “Lou” (wife, Haruna) Dixon of Berkley, CA; three daughters: Pamela Ryan of Springfield, Patricia “Trixie” (husband, Mark) Kirincich of Naperville, IL, Polly (husband Dr. Tim) Harvey of Springfield; eighteen grandchildren three great grandchildren: five step children: Mary Pat (husband, Noel) Dalbey of Springfield, Frank (wife, Sharon) Conway of Springfield Nancy Davlin of Springfield, Sr. Peggy Conway,O.P. of Granite City, IL; and Kevin Conway of Springfield. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 3-7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2001 with a wake service at 3:00 p.m. Celebrated Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2001 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Very Reverend Patrick Wright VF celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct honors.
